Catia Tutorial For Beginners

CATIA stands for Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application and is one of the most widely known and used software systems in the CAD world that is marketed and technically supported by IBM. The software is very intricate and is used by some of the biggest names in the business world. Currently over 20,000 companies use it worldwide and the distinguished list of names that use the software are top names such as Goodyear, Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, Boeing, Porsche, and Lear Jet just to name a few. All these top companies and more take advantage of the powerful applications that the software has to offer in order to help develop and design their products.

If you are planning on getting into such careers as design, manufacturing, or architecture then learning CATIA software will most likely be required of you at some point in time.

Introduction To CATIA Software

CATIA has been developed by Dassault Systèmes, which includes CAD, CAM and CAE, as a 3D multi platform software suite. Dassault is a French tech giant working in the areas of aerospace, 3D modelling, 3D digital mockups and PLM. CATIA is a solid 3D parameter modelling method that combines 2D techniques with 3D parametry and also covers each process design-to-production.

CATIA also offers orthographic, sectional, auxiliary, isometric or comprehensive 2D drawing views as well as solid models and assemblies. The model dimensions can also be generated and the reference dimensions can be created in the drawing view. CATIA’s bi-directional relational property means that changes in the paradigm were shown in the drawing views and vice versa.

History of CATIA Software

CATIA was first released in 1977, and more than 30 years the software suite continues to be powerful. The most famous version of CATIA is V5 which started in 1998 while CATIA V6 is currently available. However, it should be noted that each CATIA edition includes significant additional functions. V4 (unveiled in 1992), for example, provided the Assembly Modeling Product with improvements that would provide easy to use graphic tree-based assembly management. Improvements in data handling were seen in V5 and V6. For each version, Dassault Systemes usually provides new upgrades, launches and bug fixes. The programme CATIA is composed in C++ software. It operates on Unix and Windows Software too.
